Virginia Department for the Aging - Four Year Plan.
HIGHLIGHTS!
- The Housing Choice Voucher Program received the Virginia Housing Development Authority’s Assessment Program Achievement Award and a perfect audit rating.
- Bay Aging’s weatherization crew received an outstanding field audit from the Department of Housing and Community Development. The auditor complimented all aspects of the program—including how happy customers are with our service and work.
- Medicaid reimbursement rates, reduced by 1% in July 2011, is affecting adult day break centers (day care), Medicaid personal care and Medicaid respite reimbursement for services provided to our most vulnerable low-income clients.
- Advocacy activities in the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck are very strong with representation in groups having significant community impact, such as—Gloucester Older Adult Committee, Visions, Essex Resource Council, King and Queen Resource Council, Gloucester Resource Council, Northern Neck Aging Network, Middlesex Partners in Progress and other community groups.
- Advocacy pieces were developed for Board members to send to Governor McDonnell, Secretary of Health and Human Services William Hazel, M.D., and Virginia Senators and Delegates on behalf of seniors, people with disabilities, children and low-income families.
- The Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) designated our Bay Transit Mobility Manager as the Chair of the Coordinated Human Service Mobility Team for Planning District 17.
- Bay Transit staff developed a Ridership Agreement for its New Freedom Program with the support of the Department of Rail and Public Transportation. The document has been distributed statewide as a best practice for mobility managers.
- Melissa Blake, Deputy Finance Officer, was recently commended by Boston College for her excellent financial management services in the Community Living Programs and Veterans Home and Community Based services (Veterans Independence Program). Congratulations Melissa!!!
